Toilet training

Little miss 2 1/2 took just a day or two to get the “wee” part of toilet training sorted but the “poo” part is a challenge – any tips – she just doesn’t seem to understand what it feels like before she needs to go.

Hello Juliet, toilet training can be a very stressful time for parents
and here are a few tips for you at this time.
Look for signs that she is beginning to notice when she has a dirty
nappy – like pulling or pointing at her nappy or signs of discomfort.
She may also squat or grunt when she is doing a poo. These are all
signs that she is beginning to associate the sensation of needing to
go to the toilet with the action of doing it.
More regular bowel movements are a sign that she is gaining control
over her elimination muscles which is important for successful toilet
training. Sitting her on the potty at this time each day can help
familiarise her with the idea of doing a poo in the potty instead of
her nappy.
It is important to remember that all children develop at a different
rate and your little girl will get the hang of things eventually.
