New Parent? We've Got You! Discover our guides on baby hygiene and sterilising.

As the temperature drops and the nights become longer, creating a warm and cosy bedtime routine is essential for your newborn. This guide contains some simple and comforting winter bedtime tips to help your newborn settle down and have a good night’s sleep.

Start with a bathtime routine

Bath time is the perfect start to a cosy bedtime, as this will help your baby relax and wind down. Make sure the water is warm, but not too hot, and stick to using gentle baby-friendly hygiene products. It’s also a great excuse to see them look all cute in their adorable, hooded towels.

Protect your baby’s sensitive skin

After bath time, we recommend applying a baby-formulated lotion to help prevent any dry skin and keep their skin super soft. You can also use the lotion or baby oil to give your little one a gentle, calming massage to help soothe them before bedtime.

Maintain the perfect room temperature

It’s important that your baby’s room is a comfortable temperature. Ideally, the room should be between 18- 22°C, as this helps them maintain a safe body temperature throughout the night.

A simple room thermometer is an easy way to keep track of any changes during the colder months. Combined with soft layers and a snug sleeping bag, your baby will stay comfy all winter long.

Set up the sleep scene

Reducing the noise in your home and dimming the lights can help create a sleep-friendly environment. While some babies prefer complete quiet, others find white noise comforting, which helps them drift off more easily. It’s all about finding out what works best for your baby.

Give them a cuddle goodnight

Most importantly, make time for cuddles before bed. Cuddles help newborns feel safe and secure, signalling that it’s time to wind down for sleep – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a newborn cuddle?

Keep feeding equipment clean

Newborns often need feeding throughout the night, so having clean and sterile bottles always available is a blessing, especially during the cold season with many winter germs about.

Our cold water sterilising tablets are the perfect solution! They kill 99.9% of germs in 15 minutes while keeping all equipment sterile for 24 hours, helping you feel fully prepared for those night-time feeds.

We also offer other hygiene and sterilising products to keep your baby’s everyday essentials clean and safe.

Creating a comfortable and safe winter bedtime routine for your newborn is the key to a successful night’s sleep. A little preparation goes a long way in helping your baby settle, and with a bedtime routine plus a few Milton essentials, you’ll have the perfect setup in no time.
